Fire Extinguishers & Automatic Fire Detection Systems.

Protection against fire is one of the most important aspects to any building, whether it be commercial, industrial or domestic. Fire protection is vital to ensuring the safety of yourself, others and property.

Automatic fire detection systems analyse data gathered by detectors through a building to determine whether a fire has started, activating their sirens when a perceived risk is shown. Detection like this allows people to evacuate the building at the earliest possible moment and with appropriate signalling done sending an alert to an alarm receiving centre who then phone the local fire brigade to attend to the fire. Various levels of protection can be provided ranging from primitive manual only systems whereby people leaving a building upon discovering a fire push a Manual Call Point, to full detection whereby any room you can enter (coat cupboards included) has automatic detection, and everything in between. Detectors range from the standard Smoke Detector, Heat Detectors and Manual Call Points to Beam Detectors designed to register smoke between two points, or specialised cameras designed to monitor heat signatures.

Fire extinguishers offer a way to potentially extinguish a fire at an early stage, with the appropriate extinguishers in place a fire can be safely dealt with before it grows and would require more professional attention from a fire brigade. However it should be noted that although fire extinguishers are useful tools in fighting a small flame safety is first and foremost. Should someone not feel comfortable to attempt to extinguish the flame, or it gets too large, they should evacuate immediately and contact the emergency services.
